Summary
This is a co-op opportunity with a focus on programs directly related to water operations and delivery.
This entry level position performs routine, defined tasks to assist with the Capital Regional District's (CRD's) water supply, treatment and distribution systems (Regional/Juan de Fuca/Saanich Peninsula). All work is performed in accordance with divisional standard operating procedures.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs all work in safe manner compliant with CRD Safety Policies, Practices and Procedures.
- Performs and assists with routine physically demanding construction and maintenance work.
- Follows established procedures to complete assigned tasks.
- Assists in the operation and maintenance of small equipment and vehicles, which includes the safe transportation of materials.
- Reads and understands basic design drawings and/or sketches.
- Cleans, conducts basic repairs and maintains equipment, as directed.
- Completes routine documentation and data for the maintenance management system.
- Obtains equipment parts and supplies, as required.
- Performs routine and defined building and ground maintenance.
- Maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers.
- Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
- Performs other related duties, as required.

Key Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Basic knowledge of rules, regulations, standards and acts governing water supply, treatment and distribution.
- Basic knowledge of rules, regulations, standards and acts governing wastewater treatment and collection.
- Able to perform manual duties and to work safely around and with machinery.
- Able to make independent decisions within guidelines and to deal effectively with staff and clients.
- Able to maintain accurate records of operations and to work with minimal supervision.
- Able to work cohesively in a team environment and to take and effectively carry out both oral and written instructions.
- Able to work a variety of shifts as necessary, including weekdays, weekends, days and evenings.
- Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in isolated environments.
Qualifications
- High School Graduation
- Courses in a related discipline
Certifications
- Valid BC Driver's Licence
