Summary

This position refuels generators and equipment, operates and cleans medium and heavy trucks and equipment, loads and transports material and/ or equipment, performs routine maintenance and general clean-up of mechanic shop and outdoor storage areas.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates and cleans medium and heavy duty trucks and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Fuels emergency generators, vehicles and equipment.
  • Collects and delivers vehicles for maintenance, repairs and modifications.
  • Operates light vehicles, vehicles with air brakes and heavy equipment in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act.
  • Performs routine checks, upkeep and minor maintenance to vehicles and equipment.
  • Loads and transports equipment and roll-off containers with commercial vehicles in accordance with Motor Vehicle Act and WorkSafeBC.
  • Performs truck loading and unloading tasks.
  • Cleans, maintains mechanic shop and surrounding areas, as directed.
  • Assists mechanics with inspections, repairs, and modifications of vehicles, trailers and equipment.
  • Performs general facility maintenance and shop clean-up as directed.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Key Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Must possess the knowledge, capability and experience to operate vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be familiar with parks related small equipment (eg chainsaw, water pump, backpack blower)
  • Ability to perform routine servicing and minor maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, including records of materials transported and of labour performed.
  • Must be in good physical health and condition.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation
  • A minimum of 3 years' directly related experience

Certifications

  • Valid BC Driver's Licence Class 5
  • Air Brake Endorsement
