Position Purpose

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA) initiatives related to organizational strategic plans. Reporting to the Manager of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility, this position works collaboratively with the People, Safety and Culture team as well as managers and staff throughout the CRD. The Specialist will act as an agent of systemic cultural change towards a more inclusive organization. This position will have a strong emphasis on accessibility however it is intended to support all facets of equity, diversity and inclusion and is anticipated to evolve over time.

Key Accountabilities/Position Outcomes

  • Supports the development and implementation of the CRD’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan, Accessibility Plan, and People, Safety and Culture Strategic Plan.
  • Acts as an agent of culture change towards a more inclusive and accessible organization through building strong relationships, supporting change leadership efforts and leveraging influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Develops and delivers EDIA-related learning and development initiatives for employees, including facilitating in-person and online sessions, and contracting with external facilitators to provide training.
  • Leads the development and maintenance of an internal EDIA SharePoint intranet page which provides resources for employees.
  • Partners with the Employee Engagement Specialist and Corporate Communications to create EDIA-related communications and plan and implement special events.
  • Reviews, revises and develops policies and procedures with an EDIA lens.
  • Prepares presentations and reports to provide the Executive Leadership Team with qualitative and quantitative data needed to make decisions.
  • Provides advice, support and resources to CRD managers and staff regarding EDIA implications for projects, reports and learning and development.
  • Supports the development and implementation of metrics to measure strategic goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for the leadership and management of employees and contractors within area of responsibility, including employment and labour relations matters involving: employee hiring, promotion, demotion and other personnel matters; discipline and discharge; representing management in the grievance procedure; input on behalf of management into labour relations matters, and representing management on committees; maintaining Employer confidentiality; and developing, supporting and implementing various corporate and legislated policies, procedures and practices.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years' directly related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Role Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Lived experiences pertaining to EDIA are a definite asset.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation such as employment standards, accessibility and human rights legislation.
  • Ability to understand and contribute to the development and revision of policies and human resources procedures.
  • Familiarity with foundational equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility concepts and how they apply to an organizational environment.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in accessibility to assess and recommend changes to the CRD’s built environment, accommodations process, communications and service delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build partnerships and effective working relationships at all levels of an organization to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills for in-person, online and hybrid environments.
  • Instructional design experience for creating training sessions, online resources.
  • Highly effective communicator (verbal and written) that clearly conveys information and ideas to individuals and groups in a manner that engages and helps them understand and retain the message.
  • Highly organized with ability to set and manage priorities, balance competing demands and provide timely responses to urgent issues.
  • Skill in resolving conflicts in a respectful and productive way.
  • Demonstrated ability designing and deliver instructional experiences such as workshops, learning resources or online courses.
  • Functional computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to reliably track data and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information into reports for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality as expected in a Human Resources office.
