Summary

This position is responsible for a range of communications activities, projects and initiatives to fulfil CRD Regional Parks goals, communicate division messages, and serve visitors to regional parks and trails. The incumbent facilitates the delivery of communications services by: preparing, planning and coordinating production initiatives and schedules as well as monitoring for completeness, quality and timeliness; and assists with responding to public enquiries and requests for service.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops content, prepares and produces communications materials consistent with the goal of educating the public and raising awareness of regional parks.
  • Estimates time frames, cost of materials and resources required for each project, quality standards, and modes of communication.
  • Monitors key production plan milestones, revising where necessary to accommodate new or changing priorities.
  • Liaises with external agencies and contractors to provide materials and resources necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Responds to requests for information on regional parks/trails from the general public.
  • Supports web initiatives by developing, creating and updating web content and information.
  • Provides presentation and graphic support for programs and internal divisions
  • Ensures advertisement specifications are accurate for print and online campaigns
  • Works collaboratively to ensure messaging aligns with the CRD’s Corporate identity.
  • Ensures corporate communications standards are maintained.
  • Performs tasks in a manner that maintains a reciprocally productive relationship between Corporate Communications and internal Department resources.
  • Champions the CRD Regional Parks’ strategic goals and objectives, ensuring that messaging is consistent with these strategic goals.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Key Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills are required.
  • Proficiency and experience with word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS excel) and presentation (MS PowerPoint) software, and working knowledge of graphic design, video editing, and web development application (Adobe Creative Suite 6: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) software is required; knowledge of web content management systems (SiteFinity) is an asset.
  • Must be able to multi-task and balance changing workloads and priorities, and to deliver projects on-time and on-budget.
  • Familiarity with website maintenance and editing.
  • Experience and understanding of public participation processes and outreach activities.
  • Understanding of local government operations is an asset.
  • Ability to organize work and set goals.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years' directly related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Certifications

  • Valid BC Driver's Licence
