Summary
This position assists in the delivery of public aquatic programs and instruction. The position provides guidance and direction specific to emergency procedures and responds accordingly. The incumbent is knowledgeable of and able to communicate facility's rules and regulations while maintaining positive relationships. This position acts as a team leader and requires sound communication and judgement as well as the ability to provide guidance and direction to staff. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours to meet operational needs, including weekends days and evenings.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lifeguards and instructs, as required.
- Assists with the planning, organization, and direction of a wide variety of aquatic programs.
- Assists with orientation and training of aquatic staff.
- Provides guidance and direction to staff.
- Ensures facility policies, procedures and regulations are implemented and adhered to.
- Assists with the delivery and maintenance of a variety of programs, including volunteer programs.
- Liaises with members of the public to create a positive and safe environment while ensuring rules and regulations are maintained.
- Maintains first aid and program supply inventories.
- Assists with the coordination and implementation of special events.
- Maintains routine administrative information.
- Prepares and reviews staff information, including payroll details.
- Performs routine pool water tests and records daily readings.
- Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Thorough knowledge of aquatics programming requirements.
- Thorough understanding of children and youth programs and learning styles.
- Thorough understanding of creating positive experiences with appropriate leadership examples and learning opportunities.
- Strong MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and SharePoint skills.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of WorkSafeBC practices/protocols, Workers' Compensation Act and OHS Regulations and other relevant safety statutes.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure, prioritize work and to set and meet deadlines.
- Strong ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment and individually with minimal supervision.
- Strong ability to deal with the public with professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
- Strong proficiency and experience with registration and booking software, PerfectMind preferred.
Qualifications
- Certificate in a related discipline
- A minimum of six months' directly related experience
Certifications
- NL Pool Option
- Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C
- Water Safety Instructor
- Pool Operator Certificate Level 1
- Pool Operator Certificate Level 2
- Lifesaving Society Instructor
- National Lifeguard Certificate
- Aquatic Fitness Instructor Certification (BCRPA or equivalent)
- Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
- Valid BC Driver's Licence
