Rate of Pay: $23.78 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits

Hours of Work: Up to 50 hours bi-weekly - Tennis Camps are scheduled for six weeks, half-days, July-August 2024 - July 8-12, July 15-29, July 22-26, July 29-Aug 2, Aug 12-16 and Aug 19-23. Shifts will be approximately 8/8:15am-12:15pm weekdays these weeks. Mandatory pre-season training is planned Saturdays, May 25 and June 15 (timing these days yet to be finalized). Some additional paid planning and preparation time will also be expected through June (to be scheduled as suits the successful applicant). Four of six weeks of camp will be held at Panorama Recreation Centre, North Saanich. Other weeks will be held at Centennial Park, Central Saanich.

Summary

This position is responsible for the planning, preparation, implementation and delivery of active and engaging tennis camp programming for school age children. They will work collaboratively with the Tennis Camp Assistants and Day Camp Inclusion Assistants. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Delivers safe, successful, healthy and enjoyable tennis camp programming for school age children.
  • Plans and delivers a series of lessons with a tactical or technical focus, along with other engaging, developmentally and age-appropriate day camp activities such as cooperative group games, arts and crafts, and dramatic play.
  • Prepares equipment necessary for instruction and planned activities prior to the start of the session.
  • Provides constructive guidance and feedback to participants, along with guidance on appropriate behaviour during play and activities.
  • Ensures clear and respectful communication with players, parents/ guardians supervisors) and coworkers.
  • Works collaboratively with Tennis Camp Assistants and Day Camp Inclusion Assistants.
  • Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment.
  • Keeps accurate attendance records.
  • Follows of policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Other related duties as required.

Certifications

  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C
  • Tennis Canada Instructor Certificate

 

Key Skills & Abilities

  • Experience assisting or leading recreational programs for school age children
  • Minimum skill level of play: 4.0
  • Ability to increase/decrease the difficulty of drills to customize lessons
  • Possess the playing, demonstration and feeding abilities to work with players up to a 3.5 skill level

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation
  • A minimum of 1 year directly related experience
