Summary
Provides support for children who need additional assistance to participate in our Licensed Preschool Program in collaboration with the ECE Preschool Instructors.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in the delivery of safe, successful, healthy and enjoyable licensed care for preschool age children.
- Facilitates participation and adapt activities as required for a child requiring one on one support
- Encourages independence where appropriate and assists in developing child’s self confidence
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with parents, children, preschool instructor, preschool assistant, and supervisor
- Completes any necessary written documentation of the child’s progress as part of their designated care plan
- Promotes and delivers safe, healthy, positive interactions, communications, diversity and learning opportunities
- Promotes and enhances creative ideas in all program areas such as arts & crafts, dramatic play, music appreciation, science and nature, and sports
- Ensures the safety and general well-being of the supported child at all times
- Problem solves minor issues independently, conferring with supervisor regarding progress concerns and recommendations.
- Ensures equipment and program spaces are safe and sanitary before and after each program session.
- Adheres to licensing requirements set forth by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
- Acts as a liaison between the general public and CRD; providing good customer service and clear communication with parents and caregivers.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and standards of the CRD.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Additional Information
- The position term in anticipated to be 10 months or until the child no longer requires care.
Key Skills & Abilities
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- Experience working with children with disabilities or additional support needs is preferred.
- Experience working with preschool children in a licensed child care or recreation setting is an asset.
- A minimum of 20 hours of education, workshops or professional development in health, recreation, child studies or equivalent. The CRD is willing to assist with obtaining these hours.
- Familiarity with Ministry of Children and Family Development licensing regulations.
- Physically and psychologically capable of performing the duties of the role.
- Excellent verbal and written communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

- High School Graduation
- Some directly related experience
Certifications
- Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR-C
