Summary

This position performs basic maintenance and routine cleaning and custodial duties of a public recreation facility. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs routine building cleaning functions including cleaning public areas and replenishing supplies.
  • Assists with ensuring building, vehicles and equipment are secure.
  • Performs basic grounds maintenance tasks as directed. 
  • Assist with set up for special events, as directed.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and standards of the CRD. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Key Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and building cleaning.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work, including the safe handling of chemicals, corrosive materials and pressurized gases. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of WorkSafeBC practices/protocols, Workers' Compensation Act and OH&S Regulations and other relevant safety statutes.
  • Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties.
  • Ability to work a variety of shift schedules as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation
  • A minimum of six months' directly related experience

Certifications

  • WHMIS Certification
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence
  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
