Rate of Pay: $26.72 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits

Hours of Work: Position is up to 8 months (January-August), 25-30 hours/week. ECE's qualify for the Child Care Operation Wage Enhancement of an additional $6 per hour.

Summary

This position is responsible for lesson planning, organization and execution of activities while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children in care.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about early years programming and be available to assist in the development of this new program. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of a safe, healthy and enjoyable full day recreation program for preschool-aged children.
  • Plan, implement and supervise the preschool curriculum that promotes, stimulates and develops their intellectual, physical and emotional growth in a play-based learning environment.
  • Promote and enhance creative ideas in all program areas including but not limited to arts & crafts, dramatic play, music appreciation, science and nature, wellness, sports, physical literacy and outdoor play. 
  • Assist children with daily routines such as toileting, dressing, eating and sleeping.
  • Deliver care and support, respectful behaviors, inclusion, and first aid, including the creation of individual care plans for children needing additional assistance when required. 
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of preschool policies and guidelines. 
  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and provide parents with updates on children’s progress/development using a variety of communication methods.
  • Ensure equipment, toys and supplies are maintained according to safety and sanitary standards.
  • Complete documentation and records in accordance with Community Care Facilities Branch licensing requirements.
  • Work as part of a diverse team, providing guidance and direction to an Early Childhood Educator Assistant
  • Follow all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Additional Information

Successful applicants must consent to a Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check for working with children.

Key Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of VIHA license standards. 
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgement in fostering appropriate behavior for children.
  • Ability to work within a program budget and allocated planning time.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement when creating a positive, enthusiastic, fun and safe program. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and communication skills. 

Qualifications

  • Basic Early Childhood Educator Certificate
  • A minimum of 2 years' directly related experience

Certifications

  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
  • BC ECE Licence to Practice
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-C
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence
