Summary

This position delivers high quality classes that cater to a wide variety of skills and abilities. The instructor is required to plan safe and effective aquafit classes while ensuring program content and music are appropriate to the class and exercise.  The instructor will be responsible for the setup and clean-up of class equipment. Applicants need to be positive, and enthusiastic with the ability to lead and motivate participants.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensuring effective program instruction in a fun and safe manner for participants
  • Ensuring cleanliness of pool deck and surrounding areas.  
  • May be required to assist with administration duties as required.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Ability to develop harmonious relationships with aquatic fitness participants, the public and staff. 
  • Ability to develop and instruct fun and inclusive classes.
  • Ability to instruct safe classes within the accepted scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Ability to work co-operatively in a team environment as well as to work independently.

Qualifications

  • Some directly related experience

Certifications

  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
  • Aquatic Fitness Instructor Certification (BCRPA or equivalent)
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-C
